Regardless of the type of fireplace you have in your home, it should not replace your furnace if you want to heat the entire house. Fireplaces like the wood-burning ones are suitable for keeping a small section of your home warm for a limited time only.

Try not to install a thermostat in the same room as your fireplace. This could cause heating problems down the road. Newer fireplaces are better at heating than older ones due to their higher capabilities and mechanics. More contemporary fireplaces will have room air going out through their venting.
