What is a Swamp Cooler?
A swamp cooler, or an evaporative cooler, is a type of cooling device that uses humidity to cool the air in a home or business. The equipment for a swamp cooler is positioned on the top of the roof and sends cooler, more humid air into the building.
You’ve heard the saying, “It’s hot, but it’s a dry heat.” In Arizona, the temperature is over 100+ degrees regularly, but the relative humidity is very low, maybe five percent relative humidity. They can run their air across a water panel to humidify the air in their homes and bring down the temperature with a swamp cooler.
In Ohio, we don’t need to add any humidity in our homes that often, so these swamp coolers are not the best solution for our climate.
