What We Consider When Sizing a Furnace in Akron / Canton 

When sizing for a furnace, a couple of things go into it, not just the square footage of the house. Though the square footage is one of the main things, but we also look at the windows in the house, asking the following questions: 

• What type of windows are they: double pane or a single pane.
• How old are they?
• How many windows are thee?
• What direction they face? 
• What's the total square footage of windows? 

Once we know about the windows and the home's square footage, we take a look at the roof, and then insulation of the home. Is it in the ceiling? Is it in the attic? Is it in the walls of the house? A lot of older houses don't have insulation, especially in the walls. All of this data goes into Load Calculation Program (link to other blog), and the computer basically comes back with exactly what size of furnace you need.

The Purpose of PVC Piping on New Furnaces 

This particular furnace, is a high efficiency furnace. This means that it no longer gets vented through the chimney, but gets vented out the side of the house through those two white PVC pipes.

The pipes are what make it 95% usually versus 80%, and that means for every dollar you're spending on gas, 95 cents is hitting the house, and 5 cents is going outside. That's compared to 80 cents hitting the house for every dollar spent and that's a nice jump in home heating efficiency.
